The important part of FHE is that you have it!!! Just gather your little family around and start with prayer and then read a little story out of the B Of M scripture stories for young children (I will get you this book) I know it seems fruitless at times, but if you make it a habit it will be such a rewarding experience for your family. You can do this. And Dad was not a singer, so instead of singing songs, we would practice directing songs, learning what 2/3 3/4 and 4/4 music was. I think that is way to today, I love to conduct.
I agree with your mom. It is important just to do something. Bryan and I would read an article out of the Ensign. We would be formal about it and sing and have prayers, etc. Go over schedules too. And then the best part: treats. It doesn't have to be something grand, but a treat is always good to end on.
It was lots of fun to get to know you alittle more last night at Girls Night.
As your little one grows just a little we used the nursery manual for FHE lessons. They were geared towards the little ones and we would try to do it the week before they had the lesson in class, I figured that twice in a week would help with the remembering. We also sang the primary songs along with the CD's (no one worries how bad teh singing is when it's primary). The other thing that helped tons when our kids were little was to join with other families once in awhile. It was nice to have more grownups and also more kids.
Good Luck, it does get easier as they grow and get involved.
Hey there! I knew Nate from High School and thought I'd pipe in and see if you want me to email you some lessons I've put together for various FHE groups that I've been in. We got 6-7 girls and we'd each pick a topic and then prepare a full lesson with a scripture, an object lesson, a scripture story and a fictional story (each with pictures) a game, and a treat. We made them adaptable to toddlers to 10 year olds and also included a conference talk on the subject for the parents to read and discuss after the kids were done. So you make 7 copies of your one lesson and then get together every 3 months and swap lessons (so you come home with 7 different FHE lessons). Anyway. I've got a TON if you want me to email them to you. send me an email at janelle ehat (all one word) at gmail dot com and I'd be happy to pass on what I have and a few ideas that have helped us! Anyway, you guys have a darling little family! Tell Nathan I said hi and congrats on a gorgeous family!
You could always join us.
